Skepticism about Chinese GDP growth - the Chinese GDP elasticity of energy consumption

Article Abstract:

The quantitative relationship between energy consumption and GDP in China, in eight other Asian nations and in the US is examined to evaluate the growth of China's real GDP. Results reveal a much lower GDP elasticity of energy consumption in China than in other East Asian countries and in the US. When Chinese real economic growth was reassessed based on the average GDP electricity of energy consumption in East Asian nations, it was found that the reassessed Chinese GDP growth is much lower than officially announced.
