Global depeasantization, 1945-1990

Article Abstract:

Peasantries in developing countries rose dramaticaly due to the mass migration of people from agricultural communities to urban areas. The influx of peasants to urban areas in the post-WW II period is attributed to local andinternational factors concerning ideological, social, political and economic issues. The rise of industrialism, social movements and the political climate created by the US-Soviet Union rivalry led to a relative decline in Third World peasantries between 1945 and 1973. Meanwhile, an accelerated decline was realized from 1973-1990 due to internationalism and the development of world economies.
