Implicit and category-based allocations of decision-making power in majority-minority relations

Article Abstract:

A study of 59 subjects, with males and females in the ratio of 2:1, explored the decision-making power between the majority and minority groups. In the implementation of an implicit category-blind decision-making task, it was found that the minority groups favored a majority, but when a category-based decision rule was implemented, the majority group asked for a majority of votes from every group, and did not deprive the minority of the powers of veto. In voting for distributive decision-making powers, the majority group was split between equal and minority-favoring allocations.

When appearance concerns make women look bad: Solo status and body image concerns diminish women's academic performance

Article Abstract:

Solo status diminishes women's performance when they are negative stereotyped in testing domain or in public performance, and because women experience greater body image, its concern may also cause diminished performance in solo women. The research suggests that under the circumstances women become concerned about being evaluated as a woman, not as an individual, inducing social identity threat, causing them to perform below their potential.

Auditory Stroop reveals implicit gender associations in adults and children

Article Abstract:

Two experiments that were carried out in order to develop and test a simple and direct tool for indexing implicit gender schema contents are discussed. Results showed that children who were generally less flexible regarding gender roles showed more interference in response to gender-stereotypical words and adults exhibited the pattern that was opposite.
