Landscape stories: Using ideal type narratives as a heuristic device in rural studies

Article Abstract:

The ideal type narratives are shown to be constructed and used as a heuristic device in rural studies, while an analysis of diverse views, values and assumptions of stakeholders regarding changes in the Alpine landscape land use and biodiversity are presented. The ideal type narratives are useful heuristic device in research, have the potential to minimize misunderstandings in stakeholder discussions and contribute to more fruitful debates in participatory landscape and biodiversity planning.
