Living by habit: growing old in Russia in the 1990s

Article Abstract:

This article examines the social attitudes of elderly Russians during the 1990s and compares them to the next age group closest to them. The author maintains elderly Russians tend to have a more negative outlook on society and hold a romanticized notion of the past, as well as worry about their incomes more than the other age group.

Article Abstract:

Recent attempts at Russian reforms have created a corrupt power structure, a semicriminal monopoly market, and vast economic gaps between the richest and poorest citizens. Centrist movements offer the most viable opportunity for social change, promoting moderization and improved efficiency that conform to Russian values and norms.
