Lost in space: the impact of sensorimotor difficulties on emotional and social development in early childhood

Article Abstract:

Difficulties in sensorimotor learning can disrupt a child's growing sense of self, affecting the emotional and social development in childhood. Children with impairments in processing and coordinating sensory experience feel lost as they fail to develop sensorimotor schemas. These schemas contribute towards sensorimotor learning by providing the experimental domain of the emergent self. Any treatment process should work on the schemas, and self concepts and relationships to affect core self development.
