Managing anxiety and depression in alcohol and drug dependence

Article Abstract:

The care of the anxiety and depression in substance abusers is discussed. Most mental health professionals fail to detect the comorbidity of substance abuse and anxiety and depression while other treatments for anxiety and depression fail to address the management of the substance use disorder. However, these problems can be resolved by educating primary care and mental teams about comorbidity and increasing research on comorbidity treatment. Guidelines for the diagnosis and clinical management of comorbidity are presented.
