Medical acupuncture in Germany: patterns of consumerism among physicians and patients

An overview is presented on the use and practice of acupuncture among German patients and physicians. Topics include reasons for deciding on treatment, the incorporation of acupuncture into biomedical models, levels of patients' research and education on acupuncture, and acupuncture's emerging status as a medical specialty.
