Moving forward? Complementary and alternative practitioners seeking self-regulation

Article Abstract:

The article examines strategies used by three primary complementary and alternative medicine groups to professionalize their fields. These include increasing group cohesion, participating in peer-assessment research, improving practice standards, and enhancing educational standards. Discussion focuses on the fields of traditional Chinese medicine, homeopathy, and naturopathy.

Self, agency and the surgical collective: detachment

Article Abstract:

The article examines the socio-technical environment in which surgical patients create concepts of self and agency during post-surgical care. Data are drawn from studies conducted in a neurosurgical clinic; theoretical discussion focuses on the material and social components of patient reorganization of relationships between themselves, their world, and others.

How sociology can save bioethics . . . maybe
