Old battles, new frontiers: a study of television violence and social work with children

Article Abstract:

Social workers have observed television-related themes, characters and violence in children and have identified four categories of intervention with children. Children's play behaviors, drawings and conversations reflect television-related violence. Interventions with children include limit setting, teaching, creating alternate constructions and making connections. Intervention strategies for parents include teaching, giving advice, making alternate activities and forming empathy.
