Patterns of segregation in contemporary Rome

Article Abstract:

The existing residential segregation patterns and immigration process in Rome is examined through the study of Esquilino, a multi-ethnic city district in the heart of Rome. Esquilino area has most numbers of ethnic groups and is a vibrant and rich district because of the economic activities pursued by immigrants. Though the immigrants are treated as second-class citizens on several occasions, it is shown that using certain key words often ignites control and conflict.
