Altruism and social solidarity: Envisioning a field of specialization

Article Abstract:

A proposal of foundational ideas for sociology to become a full partner with other disciplines in the development of the vital but understudied scientific field is promoted. The existence of a substantial body of substantive topics within the potential specialty area of the sociology of altruism and social solidarity is presented.

If and when sociology becomes a female preserve

Data from several sociology departments in the U.S. reveal that sociology has not yet become a female preserve, although there is a reasonable degree of feminization of the discipline.
