Race and the inheritance of low birth weight

Article Abstract:

This article examines the genetic association of low birth weights among whites and African Americans. The authors, arguing birth weight is both related to socioeconomic status and genetics, maintain that genetic inheritance among African Americans is weaker than other races, though still plays a role in determining birth weight status.

A theoretical proposal for the relationship between context and disease

This article examines epidemiological research methods. The authors, exploring collective lifestyles, argue current methodological practices employed by epidemiologists are inappropriate and there should be a stronger focus on the relationship between social inequalities and lifestyle in disease outcomes.

Cause-specific mortality among older African-Americans: correlates and consequences of age misreporting

Article Abstract:

The authors explore the reasons for age misinformation on death certificates of elderly African-Americans. Reasons cited such as literacy, education, and not knowing the decedent's true age are discussed.
