Relationships between perceived parental acceptance-rejection, psychological adjustment, and substance abuse among young adults

Article Abstract:

Perceptions of parental rejection is a major cause of substance abuse. Drug users have higher levels of perception of paternal and maternal rejection than non-users. They are also more psychologically impaired in their adjustment than non-abusers. Significantly, though still unexplained, paternal rejection seems to cause substance abuse for both male and female subjects than maternal rejection. Significant differences are also found between substance abusers and non-abusers in terms of social class and educational level.

Psychophysiological and perceptual responses to infant cries varying in pitch: comparison of adults with low and high scores on the Child Abuse Potential Inventory

Article Abstract:

A study revealed that parents and non-parents have a greater aversion to hyperphonated cries of babies, thus causing greater distress in adults than in phonated cries. The study was conducted on nonparent adults wit either high or low scores in the Child Abuse Potential Inventory. It also determined that some adults could be helped by lessons on child care more than others.
