Review essay

Article Abstract:

Paul R. Abramson and Ronald Inglehart, authors of 'Value Change in Global Perspective,' attempt to define materialistic and postmaterialist values and how they replace each other over time. Their theories lead to predictions that more people in improving economies will develop postmaterialist values that focus on freedom, quality of life and self-expression from their initial values that focus on economic and personal security. The development of the values depends on the age of the cohort being examined.
