Sensory processing problems in post-institutionalized children: implications for social work

Article Abstract:

Maternal and environmental deprivation as experienced by institutionalised children can result in the delay of intellectual, social, emotional and physical development. While the effects of such deprivation on social, language and intellectual development is well-researched, the effect on sensory processing is less known. The symptoms of sensory integration dysfunction are given, along with their implications for social work.
