Similarities and differences between the impact of traits and expectancies: what matters is whether the target stimulus is ambiguous or mixed

Article Abstract:

Research on the activation of a trait concept and expectancies which invoke assimilation effects on trait related judgments was undertaken. The results indicate that trait concept preparations produced assimilation effects with either ambiguous or mixed target conditions. This indicates that trait concepts can determine the interpretation of ambiguous targets. Meanwhile, activated expectancy produced assimilation effects with ambiguous target but does not elicit any effect with mixed target stimulus.

Reversing the affective congruency effect: The role of target word frequency of occurrence

Article Abstract:

Studies are conducted to verify that the outcome of an affective priming experiment is critically dependent on the frequency of occurrence of the target words used. Results show that low frequency target words result in an affective congruency effect, that is, faster responses following affectively congruent than incongruent primes, and high frequency target words result in a reverse priming effect, that is, faster responses following incongruent than congruent primes.
