The history of old age in the Western World

Article Abstract:

The topic of 'old age and aging' was included in the 18th International Congress of Historical Sciences held in Montreal on August 27-September 3, 1995. Research into old age and aging has moved from a cultural standpoint to a social standpoint. Whereas previous studies accentuated the role of the elderly in social, cultural and political contexts, recent researches have delved into issues of employment, property ownership and transmission of household authority.
