Article Abstract:

The US President George W. Bush's FY 2007 budget proposal to Congress proposes a $2.2 billion reduction in non-defense programs, including most of housing and community development programs and also reduces total FY 2007 funding for the Department of Housing and Urban Development by $622 million compared with FY 2006. The need for supplemental funding is highlighted to address the current funding crisis and restoration of public housing damaged by the Gulf hurricanes of 2005.
