The relationship between economic hardship and crime: The case of Israel and the Palestinians

The association between economic adversity and crime is explored based on a study of the loss of employment among the Palestinian labor force in Israel and the resultant increase in crime rate over the past few decades. The particular case of motor vehicle theft is found to originate from economic suffering among Palestinians, and the implications of the discovery are examined.
