Article Abstract:

Dubai offers another route, a model inspired not by western democracies but by American-style enterprise, by offering free markets, open immigration, and satellite dishes. Compared to the old regional capitals like Cairo, Beirut, and Damascus, Dubai is trendy, excessive and even synthetic and unique in the Arab world, which is an exception that might serve as an example.

The attempts by the Center for Nanoscale Science and Engineering, Fargo, to encourage farm boys and girls to take up degree courses suited for them, are reported. The life-story of Jeremy Lee, a farm boy, who is about to graduate in electrical engineering, is also narrated.
