The terrorist calculus behind 9-11: a model for future terrorism?

Article Abstract:

This article discusses whether or not the World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks of 2001 were successful from the perspectives of Osama bin Laden and the Al-Qaeda organization. The author argues that even though the attacks realized short-term goals, such as gaining publicity, the long-term goal of creating a cataclysmic conflict between Muslims and Western civilization was not achieved.

Die and let die: exploring links between suicide terrorism and terrorist use of chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear weapons

Article Abstract:

This article examines why suicide bombers have not used biological, chemical, radiological, and nuclear weapons, as the delivery of such weapons have tactical advantages. The author argues terrorists motivated by religion do not have the resources, whereas non-religiously motivated terrorist groups are too rational to use such weapons.

Connecting terrorist networks

Article Abstract:

Initial findings from a Global Transnational Terrorism (GTT) Project that charts the rise of a militant minority within terrorist groups such as Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) and Al Qaeda are analyzed. The impact of their kinship with radical madrassahs that instigate them to target the 'far enemy' is highlighted.
