The society of the "dissatisfied:" peculiarities of mass consciousness in the transitional period

Using social forecasting, the author discusses the impact of Russia's history of state socialism, focusing on citizens' dissatisfaction with government management of economic and social policies. Topics include four types of social dissatisfaction, social factors that aid and hinder dissatisfaction, and the impossibility of predicting citizens' true social discontentment.

An analysis of occupational mobility in Russian society is presented. An assessment of the different occupations available before and after 1985, and the social mobility of managers, skilled and unskilled workers, and the intelligentsia are evaluated.
