Towards relevant scholarship: family sociology in South Korea

Article Abstract:

Over 700 articles and books on family sociology have been published in South Korea from 1946-1986, with increasing numbers for each decade. Research quality has improved; however, most work is still descriptive rather than theoretical. The 1960s were characterized by a positivistic approach. During the 1970s, research topics and methodologies became more diversified, whereas during the 1980s Marxist and feminist approaches became popular. Changing family structure, family interactional dynamics and male-female exchange of goods and services have been among the most active research topics.

Is knowledge-based society a relevant strategy for civil society?

Article Abstract:

The ideas of information society and civil society aim at strengthening the competitive elements of efficiency and control, where the collective capacity for action is limited. The conflicting goals between instrumentalism and democracy have made the distinction between the state and civil society unclear.

The parameters of the risk society: a review and exploration

The article offers a review of the hazards of a risk ridden society, relevant today are both natural and technological risks with reaching effects on basic fundamental values.
