What migration means for the church

Article Abstract:

A letter was sent by the Pontifical Commission for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People to the regional conferences of Roman Catholic bishops in 1978. Entitled 'Church and People on the Move,' the letter sought to look at the role which the Church has to play in light of human mobility. It described this movement as a single, global happening which is characteristic of the evolution of humanity. It presented novel ideas on Christian life amidst global changes. However, the letter also underscored the need for a thorough analysis of human mobility and for serious theological considerations on the plight of migrants and refugees.

New multilateral approaches to managed forced migrations

Article Abstract:

Future population displacements will give rise to certain issues involving both national and international security and humanitarianism. Mass displacements within and from the East and South are increasingly becoming a matter of global and joint concern wherein a dominating role is played by the North. There is a growing need to develop sustainable and parallel multilateral consutative mechanisms to deal with issues related to mass displacements in Africa and in the Far East.
