Who's driving New York?

Article Abstract:

A survey of taxi applicants conducted in 1991 revealed that most applicants are immigrants. Pakistan, Bangladesh and India are the top three countries of origin, followed by Soviet Union republics and US. As the number of European, South American and Asian applicants has declined, the quantity of applicants from the African continent and the former Soviet Union has increased. The most common languages of driver applicants, who speak 60 languages, are Urdu, Punjabi, Arabic, Bengali, Russian, French and Spanish. Males comprise 199 out of 200 new drivers and their average age is 32. Most applicants have gone to college and are in the trade for financial gain.
