Applications of vascular occlusion diminish disuse atrophy of knee extensor muscles

Article Abstract:

This article examines the effect of vascular occlusion on changes in knee extensor muscle size in patients recovering from ligament reconstruction surgery. Results indicate that vascular occlusion significantly reduced disuse atrophy in knee extensor muscles after surgery.

Attenuated growth hormone response to resistance exercise with prior sprint exercise

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to examine effects of prior sprint exercise on growth hormonal (GH) responses to subsequent resistance exercise with different recovery periods between exercise stints. It was found that GH responses to resistance exercises was strongly attenuated when the exercise was preceded by sprint exercise and intervening rest period.

Effects of resistance exercise on lipolysis during subsequent submaximal exercise

Article Abstract:

The effects of prior resistance exercise on fat metabolism during subsequent submaximal exercise with different recovery periods between exercise bouts are analyzed. Fat availability during the submaximal exercise is found to have enhanced by prior resistance exercise, but augmentation of fat oxidation is observed only in the trial with shorter rest between resistance exercise and submaximal exercise bouts.
