The American College of Rheumatology recommends that people who must use oral corticosteroid drugs for at least six months should use the lowest dose possible, or switch to a topical or inhaled version of the drug if possible. Steroid users are also advised to take Vitamin D and perform weight-bearing exercises.

Hardening of the carotid arteries that carry blood from the neck to the brain can result in a stroke. But there are two kinds of x-rays that will show up calcification of these arteries. A panoramic x-ray from the dentist can be used to screen for potential stroke risk.

Cheap dressing: wound benefit from low-tech approach

Research indicates that petroleum jelly speeds up the healing of minor wounds as effectively as higher-priced antibiotic ointments such as Polysporin and Bacitracin. However, antibiotic ointment remains the recommended treatment for wounds likely to contain bacteria.
