Changes in muscular activity while imagining weight lifting using stimulus or response propositions

Article Abstract:

A study of electromyographical (EMG) activity and self-reported imaging during imaginary lifting of weights shows that Lang's model of imaging applies to emotionally neutral movement imagery. The results confirmed hypotheses that imagery linked to response propositions (assertions about behavior) will produce more EMG activity than when linked to stimulus propositions (descriptions of a scenario), and that image content (the amount of weight being lifted) affects the magnitude and location of EMG response.

Construct validity of physical self-description questionnaire responses: relations to external criteria

Article Abstract:

A study comparing childrens' responses to the Physical Self-Description Questionnaire (PSDQ) with external criteria demonstrated the convergent validity of the PSDQ responses. The study involved 192 children (79 girls and 133 boys) aged roughly 13 to 15 in Sydney, Australia. The researchers evaluated construct validity of PSDQ responses on 11 scales in relation to 23 external criteria. Every predicted correlation was statistically significant, and most were larger than non-predicted correlations.

Controlled evaluation of a physical activity intervention for senior school students: Effects of the lifetime activity program

Article Abstract:

The development, implementation, and evaluation of a structured physical activity intervention designed for high school students are described. It is proposed that a well-organized exercise-based program can be effective in increasing physical activity behavior of adolescents on a short-term basis.
