Do 9- to 12- yr-old children meet existing physical activity recommendations for health?

Article Abstract:

This article investigates whether 9- to 12-year-old children meet the physical activity recommendations for health in the UK and the US. The authors use heart rate monitors to measure the intensity of exercise, finding that British children are sufficiently healthy to meet current recommendations.

Stability and convergent validity of three physical activity assessments

Article Abstract:

This article examines the stability and convergent validity of Caltrac accelerometers, heart rate monitors (HR), and physical activity recall (PAR) in daily activities of 6th grade girls. Results show PAR and HR were stable, and Caltrac showed the least stability and reliability.

Lipid-lipoproteins in children: an exercise dose-response study

Article Abstract:

The effect of exercise volume on pre- and early-pubertal children's lipid-lipoprotein profile is studied using a dose response design on 36 children over a 12-wk period. Results indicated no significant alterations in the lipid-lipoprotein profile showing that the exercise volume was insufficient and also the hope that proper quantification of energy expenditure may provide a potential starting point for future dose-response related research with children.
