Anaerobic exercise induces moderate acute phase response

Article Abstract:

This article discusses research designed to compare immune responses after repeated or single bouts of anaerobic exercise. Results showed that repeated bouts of short cycling exercise lead to a more acute phase response than with short bouts, and suggests that athletes should be careful when preforming such training exercises several times a week because inflammation can occur up to 24 hours afterward.

Effects of graded carbohydrate supplementation on the immune response in cycling

Article Abstract:

A study examined the acute immune response after three standardized cycling sessions of 4-h duration in the field with varying carbohydrate (CHO) supplementation in a randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled fashion. It resulted that due to the lacking dose-dependent difference, the ingestion of at least 6% CHO beverages can sufficiently attenuate the exercise-induced immune response and stress, especially in phagocytizing cells by the reduced release of cortisol.

Is determination of exercise intensities as percentages of VO2max or HR max adequate?

Article Abstract:

An investigation to test calculation of exercise intensities as percentages of VO2max or HRmax in comparison to using the individual's anaerobic threshold(IAT) . Reliance on VO2max and HRmax alone without considering the IAT does not suffice, as most responses to exercise are intensity dependent.
