Immune response to a 30-minute walk

Article Abstract:

The purpose of the study is to measure several components of immune changes related to walking 30 minutes with or without an exercise assist device compared with sitting. It is concluded that the use of an exercise assist device increased oxygen consumption 11% during walking, but did not alter the pattern of change in several components of immunity measured during walking alone in comparison to sitting.

TLR4 is lower in resistance-trained older women and related to inflammatory cytokines

Article Abstract:

The effect of acute and untrained resistance exercise on Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and inflammatory cytokines is discussed. Regularly exercising older women expressed less cell-surface but did not have lower plasma levels or produce less lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated inflammatory cytokines at rest or in response to a single bout of resistance exercise.

Validity of a questionnaire to assess historical physical activity in older women

Article Abstract:

The recall of physical activity (PA) data collected as part of a clinical trail of a walking intervention and subsequent follow-up in 163 white postmenopausal women (74 plusmn 4) is examined. The historical recall of leisure physical activity is reasonably estimated by questionnaire over a substantial time period in older women.
