Lake Superior: Gitche Gumee

Article Abstract:

Lake Superior, called 'Gitche Gumme' by the Chippewa, is the deepest and coldest of the Great Lakes, and the largest freshwater sea in the world. The lake is also home to a variety of fish including northern pike, salmon, smallmouth bass, muskies, perch, walleyes, and seven types of trout.

A hunter ponders the significance of an abandoned tree stand in the area where he often goes deer hunting. He does not know who built the stand, but he imagines the man and wonders about his life. His thoughts are a reminder to enjoy being alive.

Ruffed & reliable: gunning for grouse?

Article Abstract:

Aspen groves are a reliable location for grouse hunting, but forestry policies have diminished aspen stands nationwide. Commercial forests, thickets, cold moist terrain, sheltered openings, and old barns are typical prime habitat.
