Lateral ankle sprains, a comprehensive review, Part 2: treatment and rehabilitation with an emphasis on the athlete

Article Abstract:

Treating and rehabilitating athletes with ankle sprains involves mostly conservative individualized care. A five-phase intervention program for rehabilitation is discussed. Recovery estimates and the use of strengthening exercises are also included. Surgical treatment for grade III sprains in top athletes applies to very few cases. There are a number of practical and medical objections to routine tendon repair.

Lateral ankle sprains, a comprehensive review, Part 1: etiology, pathoanatomy, histopathogenesis, and diagnosis

Article Abstract:

Ankle sprains are very common yet difficult to diagnose and treat. Recurrent sprains are likely to develop into chronic problems. A review of biomechanical, pathoanatomical, and histologic factors is presented. Diagnostic approaches should include a physical examination and detailed radiographic techniques in addition to a full medical history.
