Making salt sense

Article Abstract:

Although recent research suggests that only 20% to 30% of the population show a rise in blood pressure after eating salt, many experts believe that most adults would benefit from less salt in their diets. Americans consume much more salt than they need, and salt affects blood pressure more as people age.

Studies cited indicate that fitness is one of the most important keys to good health. Leg-pumping exercises such as daily stair-climbing is an excellent activity. Belly fat, which can lead to cardio-vascular diseases, should be reduced. Optimum waist sizes for different age groups are given.

There are many small food emporiums which carry specific ethnic lines of food that are often made the traditional, healthier way. The pros and cons of goods from these small stores are discussed, such as over-salty soy sauce. One Italian market, Stravino's in Allentown, PA is highlighted.
