Article Abstract:
A designer usually substitute a taller in-mast furling rig in a sailboat for its conventional-hoist cousin to compensate for the less-efficient mainsail but, the taller rig raises the boat's center of gravity and the per foot weight of the section and associated furling mechanism would be further increasing the weight and lessening the vessel's righting moment. The furling-boom systems uses the existing spar and track or add only a small amount of weight associated with a more efficient mainsail track and has a negative impact on stability.

Boat Test: A north wind blow in from Spain
Article Abstract:
The North Wind 43 won Cruising World's award as the Best Deck-Saloon Cruiser for the year 2001. The cruiser was developed by New York-based Sparkman & Stephen's design firm with Spain's North Wind Shipyard. The boat is for civilized sailing and can be handled by a shorthanded crew who likes to sail in comfort.
