Motivational climate, psychological responses, and motor skill development in children's sport: a field-based intervention study

Article Abstract:

A study on the efficacy of a performance versus mastery oriented teaching program on children's enjoyment, perceived competence, intrinsic motivation and motor skill development, reveals that a mastery motivational climate can lead to a more positive experience for young athletes in the course of learning new skills. It also reveals that children in the mastery program have a consensus in reporting upper levels of perceived competence and intrinsic motivation, but those belonging to traditional groups show less marked effects.
