Shared genetic and environment effects on strength and power in older female twins

Article Abstract:

The relative contribution of genetic and environmental effects on maximal leg extensor power is examined and whether the leg extensor power and maximum voluntary isometric knee extensor strength share a genetic component is investigated. It is observed that the genetic effect is common for leg extensor power and maximum voluntary isometric knee extensor strength indicated that the same genes regulate two traits.

Interrelationships between muscle structure, muscle strength, and running economy

Article Abstract:

Differences in running economy among elite middle-distance runners are investigated by examining muscle structure and maximal isometric force. Results indicated differences in muscle fiber distribution, MHC composition and titin isoforms.

Fatigue after submaximal intensive stretch-shortening cycle exercise

Article Abstract:

Submaximal intensive stretch--shortening cycle exercise causes low-frequency muscle fatigue, according to a study of 12 men. Low-frequency muscle fatigue is probably caused by smaller calcium release per action potential.
