The role of maximal strength and load on initial power production

Article Abstract:

The role of maximum strength during initial power production for weight lifters differs between stretch-shorten and concentric cycle activity. For the bench press, concentric motion was significantly enhanced by prior eccentric muscle action.

Stretching at the ankle joint: visoelastic responses to holds and continuous passive motion

Article Abstract:

This article examines the effects of stretching exercises consisting of continuous motion and static holds on the viscoelastic responses of soft tissues surrounding the ankle joint. Results indicate that ankle stiffness was only significantly decreased by continuous passive motion, but that holds were more effective in relaxing peak tension.

Variability of competitive performance of distance runners

Article Abstract:

Research concerns the utility of performance measures to asses the variation in a runner's performance during a race, as well as the variables that impact the prospect for winning. Findings suggest that the variation in performance for male distance runners is -2.5% in longer distance running events, and -1.5% in shorter distance races.
