Walkers can prevent hypothermia and frostbite by wearing an undershirt and leggings made of polyester or polypropylene to pull the sweat away from the skin. The next layer of clothing should be a polyester fleece jacket or vest; the third layer should be a nylon or Gore-Tex windbreaker or anorak.

A experience with the HealthRider exercise machine is described. Exercise devices such as HealthRider, Aerobic Rider, Cardio Glide, and E-Force, seem generally effective, but perhaps the greatest drawback is a lack of motivation. It is often more enjoyable to take a brisk walk.

It has been determined that moderate exercise increases the activity of the immune system. This can lead to prevention, or a reduction in frequency, of colds, or even can benefit those with chronic illnesses. Too much exercise, however, may actually cause colds.
