Technical reliability assessment of three accelerometer models in a mechanical setup

Article Abstract:

A study determines which of the three most commonly used accelerometer models has the best intra- and interinstrument reliability using a mechanical laboratory setup, and the effects that acceleration and frequency have on these reliability measures. It was seen that out of the three accelerometer models measured, the Actical had the best intra- and interinstrument reliability, but discrepant trends in the variability of Actical and Actigraph counts across acceleration and frequencies preclude the selection of a superior model.

Conquering childhood inactivity: Is the answer in the past?

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to compare the health-related physical fitness and physical activity behaviors of Old Order Mennonite (OOM) children to both rural and urban-dwelling children living a contemporary Canadian lifestyle. The findings support the notion that the contemporary living might facilitate a decline in fitness and physical activity among some Canadian children.

Physical activity and body mass index of children in an Old Order Amish community

Article Abstract:

A study investigates the physical activity levels and body mass index (BMI) of Old Order Amish children and adolescents living in a nontechnological farming community. Results prove that Amish youth are physically more active and have a lower rate of obesity, as compared to the children with all the modern facilities of industrialization.
