The effect of dehydration on wrestling minimum weight assessment

Article Abstract:

The effects of dehydration (DEH) on the minimum weight (MW) assessment was determined which included hydrostatic weighing (HW), skinfolds (SF), leg-to-leg bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) and multifrequency bioelectrical impedance spectroscopy analysis (BIS). The study confirmed that acute thermal dehydration (DEH) affects body composition methods by analyzing differences in measured and predicted MW variables.

Supplemental feedings increase self-selected work output during wildfire suppression

Article Abstract:

The study on seventy-six wildland firefighters to determine the impact of supplemental feedings strategies on self-selected activity during wildland fire suppression is presented. Results concluded that by consuming the appropriate supplemental foods or drinks during their work shift, self-selected activity is increased during wildfire suppression and help to work towards increasing safety on the fire line.

Water turnover and changes in body composition during arduous wildfire suppression

Article Abstract:

Results suggest arduous work environment of the wildland firefighters does affect whole-body hydration, energy balance, and muscle glycogen concentration. Data also indicate that changes in euhydration may decrease the total body mass.
