The social integrative meaning of sport: a critical and comparative analysis of policy and practice in the Netherlands

Article Abstract:

This article examines the social integration of ethnic minorities, the elderly, the physically disabled, and homosexuals into mainstream and private sport in the Netherlands. The authors argue that the diversity of participants in the Netherlands is just beginning to reflect the diversity of the general population, however, different types of sporting activities and sports clubs still tend to attract specific groups.
