Use mainsail battens to gain a speed edge

Article Abstract:

Battens are used by sailors to support their boats' mainsail roach and maintain the design of the shape of their sail. In addition, battens can be used to increase boat speed. It is advised that heavy-air battens are raised when the winds are stronger to increase boat speed.
