Validity of PCERT and OMNI walk/run ratings of perceived exertion

Article Abstract:

A study utilized a perceptual estimation paradigm to test the concurrent and construct validity of the Pictorial Children's Effort Rating Table (PCERT) and the OMNI walk/run scale of perceived exertion for children performing a submaximal progressive treadmill exercise test. The validity of both scales was established, with results showing that although PCERT and OMNI scores are not interchangeable as they have different scales, at a given exercise intensity youth assign similar percentages of the maximal scores.

Open-loop feedback increases physical activity of youth

Article Abstract:

The number of youth that meet activity guidelines is decreasing and easy access to reinforcing sedentary behaviors competes with increasing physical activity. Open-loop feedback increases physical activity in children, thus helping children to achieve physical activity recommendations.
