A need for new designs

Article Abstract:

Innovations found in land-based airconditioning units can be modified and applied to airconditioning systems aboard cruise ships. This is because the airconditioning systems used in cruise ships are inefficient and bulky. The changes include the use of water-type systems and air induction systems. The slow evolution of ship airconditioning systems can be attributed to the participation of airconditioning equipment manufacturers in the early stages of designing a ship. This retarded the research and development efforts of manufacturers because they felt no need to innovate.

New players in the big league

Competition in the cruise line sector begins to intensify, as a growing number of companies are deciding to tap this lucrative market. Other competitors including P and O and Holland America Lines, on the other hand, attempt to assert their strength by capitalizing on tonnage and berth increases.

Cruising gets a special lift

Article Abstract:

Cruise liners are being equipped with such equipment as special elevators and escalators that combine functionality with aesthetic considerations, especially if they are installed in the atrium area. Such equipment must be able to withstand operating conditions that are more demanding than onshore ones. Their continuous exposure to the sea and their almost nonstop use demand that they be designed with sturdiness in mind.
