Characteristics of drivers not using seat belts in a high belt use state

Article Abstract:

The use of driver license points as penalty is an effective method to enforce usage of seat belts within the hard-core nonuser section. A survey conducted in the state of North Carolina, where 80% people use seat belts, shows that nonusers are mainly young males within the age of 35. Findings show that nonusers use mostly pick-up vehicles, rather than cars, and vehicles of pre-1985 make. Nonusers also have arrest records, poor driving records and no health care coverage. Publicity and enforcement campaigns may help to curb nonuse of belts.

Describing patterns of occupational agricultural deaths: the effect of case definition

Article Abstract:

Research suggests that the three definitions of occupational agricultural death used on the California Occupational Mortality System database are inadequate because they fail to capture numerous aspects about the incident such as the ethnicity of the individual. Less focused and more focused definitions of occupational injury are required to achieve better analysis of occupational agricultural deaths.
