Green credentials have potential

Article Abstract:

Shipowners have usually escaped the impact of a vast majority of new legislation but times are changing. For instance, Sweden has enacted environmentally differentiated port and fairway schemes that affect all ships including newly constructed vessels. Norway, Denmark, Germany and possibly all of the EU are likely to introduce schemes similar to that of Sweden between 1999 and 2003, which will make it more costly for vessels that emit more pollution to visit a port.
