Cruise ship propulsion poised for step change

Article Abstract:

Shipbuilders noted that the next-generation of cruise ships may incorporate both gas turbine propulsion and azimuth thruster electric drive systems. Gas turbines offer easy maintenance and space-saving features while azimuth thruster drive systems offer greater fuel efficiency. Presently, however, the shipbuilders stated that the urge to design cruise ships incorporating both innovations remains weak. Nonetheless, they were confident that these technologies will soon be used in cruise ships in the near future.
