Deck gear advances

Article Abstract:

The design, safety and effectiveness of modern deck gear have improved considerably over the years, buoyed by the discovery of alternative shipbuilding technologies. Compared to traditional deck gear, modern designs are more compact and have been integrated with electric and hydraulic drives. Rauna Winch Systems, for instance, has developed a cutting-edge frequency-controlled electric anchoring and mooring systems that meet the needs of cruise ships.

Croatian yard extends Baltic cruise ferry references

Article Abstract:

A detailed description of the Frans Suell, a 35 285gt Baltic cruise ferry built by the Brodosplit yard in Croatia, is presented. The vessel is the first of two ships ordered at the yard by Sweden's Sea-Link group, operator of the southern Baltic Euroway service between Malmo and Travemunde-Lubeck. Its overall design is almost the same as the 34 384gt Baltic cruise ferries Amorella and Isabella.

Keeping cruise ships on the level

Article Abstract:

There is a growing emphasis on more effective motion reduction devices among cruise ship owners. Cruise lines demand optimal ship stability even in extremely bad weather. Morever, they insist on stabilizing systems that can be retracted to allow for better berthing. Consequently, shipbuilders are developing new stabilizer designs to meet the individual requirements of the customers.
